A Safe Space for your

Wild Heart to Learn & Grow

Wild Heart Sanctuary is a small scale sanctuary located in Holden, Maine. It was founded in 2024 to create a safe, comfortable, healing space to learn and grow for both humans and animals alike.

Wild Heart strives to honor all animals wild nature & needs. Our mission is to provide quality care and a safe haven for animals, and in doing so educate the community on their species and how to protect them and their environment. This is done through our Animal-Assisted Psychotherapy program as well as through our Wildlife Education programs, which are developing as we continue to create this sanctuary space.

Animal-assisted therapy is provided at the sanctuary by Katie Baron, LCPC, who has been practicing this modality since 2016.

Animal-assisted therapy works by creating a safe and enriching environment for both humans and animals to interact in an open and curious manner. Animals offer important feedback to us based on our actions, behaviors, and energy.

Their response and reaction to us can give us insight into our internal state if we are struggling to identify or express what may be going on for us.

This can help us to not only identify but release and express these stuck emotions in healthy ways. They can also help us to build connections that we may find difficult to create with other people, and in doing so practice how to build these bonds with others.

We are currently creating a waitlist for these therapy services - reach out to wildheartmaine@gmail.com for more information!
