Animal Assisted Psychotherapy
Animal-Assisted Therapy takes you out of the office and into nature. It blends elements of traditional therapy such as talking, creating a treatment plan to work on goals that address behavioral concerns, processing trauma and learning coping skills - but animals and nature-based activities are incorporated into sessions.
This often helps people feel more comfortable, open up and develop connections quicker.
The skills learned while working in this setting and with our animal companions can then be applied to everyday life.
The land that Wild Heart Sanctuary calls home has a beautiful path system through the forest- filled with moss, mushrooms, trillium and lady-slippers. This offers a more natural and calming environment then therapy provided online or in-office, and the therapeutic benefits of this environment speak for themselves.
Whether it's a nonconventional, relaxed environment that you are seeking to process difficult emotions or experiential learning activities with animals that help develop self-awareness, confidence and connection, animal assisted & nature-based therapy has a lot to offer.
What to Expect
Therapy is offered in a natural, relaxed but confidential environment.
You can choose to have your session in the cozy office with a view of the forest and horses, outdoors with the horses, or walking the nature paths.
Note about equine work: All work with horses is ground-based and there are no riding activities. The main focus is on relationship, communication & connection and is very low pressure. No prior horse experience is neccessary.
